Jongshik Jung, an alumnus of our university’s Department of Business Administration with a major in Management (Undergraduate Class of 2011, Master’s Class of 2017), has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business, one of the top research-oriented universities in the United States. He is set to assume his position in August 2025. Currently, Jung is pursuing his Ph.D. at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and is expected to graduate in May 2025.
Jung’s research focuses on the impact of emerging technologies, such as algorithms and platforms, on social interactions and collaboration within organizations. Using data from diverse fields, including Instagram, GitHub, and Major League Baseball (MLB), he applies big data analysis and machine learning techniques to empirically examine how algorithms influence human interactions and learning. Additionally, he explores strategic ways in which organizational managers can leverage algorithms to enhance collaboration among members more effectively.
Jung’s research excellence has been recognized at international academic conferences. In 2023, he received the Best Paper Proceedings award from the Academy of Management (AOM) and was the runner-up for the Best Proposal Award at the Strategic Management Society (SMS). He has also earned several prestigious academic accolades, including the Samsung Global Research Scholarship, further solidifying his reputation as a distinguished scholar.
Reflecting on his journey, Jung expressed his gratitude for the education and diverse experiences he gained at our university, which laid the foundation for his academic growth and research capabilities. Looking ahead, he aspires to contribute to the advancement of academia through ongoing research and mentoring future scholars.
