Simsan Kim Chang-sook Research Society Carries Out the 59th Memorial Ceremony of Chang-sook Kim

The 59th memorial ceremony of Chang-sook Kim, the first president of Sungkyunkwan University and independent activist against Japanese Imperialism, was held by Simsan Kim Chang-sook Research Society (Chairman: Prof. Kyungseok Lim) on May 7 (Fri) at both Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural Sciences Campuses.
This memorial ceremony is held on every 10th of May around the anniversary of Simsan Chang-sook Kim’s death. At this year’s event, President Dong-Ryeol Shin and other important people attended to reflect on desire left by Simsan and the identity of Sungkyunkwan University.

The Simsan Kim Chang-sook Research Society, which was formed mainly by professors of humanities and social sciences at Sungkyunkwan University, was founded in July 14, 1978 to study and honor his patriotism and educational contribution. The founding members are 28 professors, including Prof. Woo-sung Lee (first chairman), Eul-byung Jang, Beon-jin Jung, etc. It now consists of 120 professors of humanities and social sciences as well as natural sciences. The activity fund is raised by member’s membership fees and publication profits, and it holds annual memorial ceremonies for Simsan Chang-sook Kim, Simsan Award ceremony, small workshops and academic conferences.
