Sungkyun Study Room: Study with MOOC,
Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation Successfully Concludes the '2024 Fall Semester MOOC Camp'

The Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation (Director: Seo Ah-young) under the Institute for Digital Education Advances hosted the '2024 Fall Semester MOOC Camp' from January 23 to January 24, 2025, at the President Hotel.
The MOOC Camp, part of the non-curricular program Sungkyun Study Room: Study with MOOC, is a two-day intensive learning camp organized during the school break. Since its launch in the winter of 2023, the camp has aimed to go beyond MOOC content learning, fostering team-based collaboration where students systematically synthesize their knowledge, share learning experiences, and apply their insights. This semester, 23 teams, totaling 77 students, participated and engaged in meaningful discussions to reflect on their learning.
A key activity of the camp was LearnTable, designed to facilitate knowledge sharing. Each team, based on their pre-planned objectives, engaged in discussions, hands-on exercises, and demonstrations within assigned zones: Challenge, Share, PT, and Research.

Students actively took on dual roles as both facilitators and participants, making significant contributions to the camp's core activities. To select outstanding teams from LearnTable, students participated in peer voting, while the center invited expert evaluators for a fair assessment. Evaluation criteria included preparation, interaction, and communication skills, with the final scores combining expert evaluations and student votes. The expert panel included Senior Researcher Park Sun-hwa (Sungkyunkwan University), Professor Kim Min-ji (Seoul National University), and Professor Shin Sun-ae (Chung-Ang University).
1st Place: Share Zone - "Exploring Alternatives to Prison Sentences": This team studied the FutureLearn course "Incarceration: Are Prisons a Suitable Punishment?" and led discussions on the primary goals and challenges of imprisonment. They facilitated an interactive session where peers critically examined the issues of incarceration and explored innovative alternatives to traditional sentencing.
¡øShare Zone - "Exploring Alternatives to Prison Sentences":
Second and third place were awarded to the Challenge Zone team, "Building a Sustainable Nation," and the Research Zone team, "Predicting the Future with Data Models," respectively.

¡øChallenge Zone - "Building a Sustainable Nation"
The "Building a Sustainable Nation" team completed the Coursera course "The Age of Sustainable Development" and designed an interactive game that simulated real-world challenges faced by developing countries. Through this activity, participants explored the difficulties and possibilities of sustainable development, gaining deeper insight and empathy toward national and societal progress.
The "Predicting the Future with Data Models" team studied Coursera’s "Prediction Models With Sports Data" and developed a research-based program where participants engaged in simple games to experience the principles of predictive modeling. They also explored ways to enhance model performance through hands-on experimentation.

¡ø 3rd Place: Research Zone - "Predicting the Future with Data Models"
Students shared that the two-day camp not only helped them consolidate about a month’s worth of learning but also provided a valuable opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in different academic fields.
Professor Lee Sang-eun, Deputy Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation, stated:
"MOOC Camp is a valuable opportunity for students to systematically organize their MOOC learning and expand it into real-world experiences. We hope that the learning outcomes from this camp will be shared beyond the participants, fostering a culture where more students take initiative in their learning and personal growth."
