2024 1st Graduate School Innovation Forum Successfully Held



On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, our university hosted the inaugural Graduate School Innovation Forum. Organized by the Graduate School and coordinated by the Graduate School Innovation Center, the forum showcased the year’s achievements in implementing the "Six Strategic Initiatives for a Research-Oriented University" and highlighted exemplary cases of R&E integration within BK Education and Research Groups. The event, conducted both online and offline, was attended by approximately 60 participants, including faculty members, Graduate School Innovation Committee members, strategic initiative implementation leaders, BK Education and Research Group leaders, and other stakeholders.


The forum was divided into two sessions: The first session was the Graduate School Innovation Achievements. Yu Pil-jin, Vice President of Planning and Coordination, presented on the university governance reforms and R&E integration platform development to support graduate school innovation. Bae Sang-hoon, Vice President of Academic Affairs, shared the outcomes of the Graduate Education BIGs (Breakthrough Initiatives for Growth) initiative. Lee Han-jung, Vice President of International Affairs, introduced the university’s efforts in attracting outstanding international graduate students and operating the Global R&E Integration Platform. These presentations provided an overview of strategies and initiatives to align education and research for a research-centric university.

The second session was the BK Education and Research Group Achievements. It featured an award ceremony for the top-performing BK Education and Research Groups selected through an R&E Integration Best Practices Competition. For the Humanities and Social Sciences Awards. The Grand Prize was awarded to the Department of Korean Language and Literature BK Group (Director: Chun Jeong-hwan). The Excellence Award: Social Innovation Interdisciplinary Program BK Group (Director: Jung Jae-eun). Whereas, the Natural Sciences Awards included the Grand Prize for the Department of Nanoscience and Technology BK Group (Director: Lee Sung-joo). And the Excellence Award was to the Department of Pharmacy BK Group (Director: Kim Hyung-sik).


The session also included a presentation by Han Sang-man, Dean of the Graduate School, on Sungkyunkwan University's R&E Integration Model. This detailed the conceptual framework and development process of the integration model, along with insights from the award-winning groups. Lastly, Choi Byung-wook, Graduate School Team Leader, summarized the competition's outcomes and provided an overview of the participating groups’ best practices.

President Yoo Ji-Beom delivered a congratulatory address, emphasizing the importance of graduate school innovation and the year’s major achievements. He also underscored the need for continuous communication and collaboration between the university and BK Education and Research Groups.

Dean Han Sang-man noted, “This inaugural Graduate School Innovation Forum and BK Education and Research Group Achievement Exchange was a significant step in sharing the outcomes of our initiatives and envisioning the future. It was a valuable opportunity for our university community to deepen their understanding of the BK21 Phase 4 Project and graduate school innovation while collectively contemplating future directions.”
