Award Ceremony of an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering to Li Shucai, President of Shandong University

On Monday, November 4, our university awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering to Li Shucai, President of Shandong University, in a ceremony held at the 600th Anniversary Hall on the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus.
Born on December 23, 1965, President Li currently serves as the President of Shandong University in China and as a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is internationally recognized as a leading scholar in the field of tunneling and underground engineering, with groundbreaking contributions in the development of disaster prevention technology and predictive research for tunnel hazards.

His research has significantly advanced China’s underground engineering sector, with applications across various infrastructure projects, including railways, highways, and hydropower. After serving as Vice President of Shandong University from 2015 to 2022, he became President in 2022, driving the university’s academic strength and international standing.

President Yoo Ji-beom stated, "President Li Shucai has made remarkable contributions to educational innovation and development at Shandong University through his creative research and outstanding leadership. He has also greatly advanced educational and academic exchange between Sungkyunkwan University and Shandong University. In recognition of these achievements, we are pleased to confer an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering on President Li."

Since establishing an exchange agreement in 1990, our university and Shandong University have actively engaged in joint research and academic exchange across various disciplines. Both universities continue to foster academic growth and expand their international research network through shared research outcomes and staff exchange programs.
