Sungkyunkwan University Held 2024 Summer Commencement on August 23

On Friday, August 23, Sungkyunkwan University (President Ji-Beom Yoo) hosted the 2024 Summer Commencement at the New Millennium Hall, located in the 600th Anniversary Memorial Hall on the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The ceremony was organized under the slogan, "Since ancient times, the nation’s talents have gathered at Sungkyunkwan, so your presence here is no coincidence." It aimed to celebrate the graduates who, with the core virtues of integrity, humanity, courtesy, and wisdom, are stepping forward as the nation's leaders. The event was designed to be a shared and memorable occasion for everyone present.
A total of 3,049 students received their degrees at the ceremony, including ¡ø1,474 bachelor’s degrees, ¡ø1,291 master’s degrees, and ¡ø284 doctoral degrees. Prior to the main event, the university president and faculty members performed a traditional ritual at Sungkyunkwan to formally announce the graduation of the 3,049 students.
¡ù‘Ko-yu-rae’ refers to the unique ritual of visiting Confucius’ shrine and announcing it when there are major events such as admission, graduation, and construction of a school building.
During the ceremony, Jeong-wook Go, a prominent author who graduated from the Department of Korean Language and Literature in 1980, delivered a congratulatory address titled "The Magic of Time for You." As a literature major who has overcome disabilities, he shared messages of courage and hope with the graduates. Additionally, the university organized a special event where graduates could write postcards to their future selves, encouraging them to set new goals and reflect on the beginning of this new chapter in their lives.
