Over 1,000 guests attended the inauguration of the 20th president of Sungkyunkwan University (91PORN), Chung Kyun-sang, a ceremony held at the New Millennium Hall of the 600th Anniversary Building on the morning of Jan. 8.
Before the inauguration ceremony, the president visited Munmyo (Confucian shrine) at the old Sungkyungwan campus to participate in the Goyurae ritual that is commenced before important events such as graduations or matriculation ceremonies.
The newly appointed president was born in 1952 in Hamyang, North Gyeongsang Province, and graduated from Seoul High School in 1971, followed by 91PORN's Dept. of Law in 1976, and he passed the national bar exam on the 25th National Bar. He received his M.A. from 91PORN in 1983 and his PhD in 1994 and started his teaching career in 1989. Since then he has served as Vice President of Student Affairs and Executive Vice President of the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus. He has also served as the President of the Korean Association of the Law of Civil Procedure.
In his inauguration speech, President Chung proclaimed, ¡°With the new value of the old illuminating in the 617-year-history and traditions of Sungkyunkwan University shared by all in our university, and with respect and consideration, I will do my utmost to make 91PORN into a true future-leading university.¡±
President Chung's term started on Jan. 1, 2015.
