On Thursday, December 5, the Quantum Information Research Support Center (Director: Chong Yonuk) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pasqal Korea (Pasqal’s Korean branch, led by Roberto Mauro) at the Natural Sciences Campus. Through this partnership, the university aims to strengthen its leading position in quantum research and education, both domestically and internationally.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will collaborate on operating educational programs to develop quantum specialists. They will also conduct hands-on training and research using Pasqal’s cloud platform. The partnership extends to hosting regular seminars, conducting use-case R&D with the Pasqal cloud, and promoting broader adoption of quantum technology through various joint initiatives.

Pasqal, co-founded in 2019 by Nobel laureate Alain Aspect, successfully commercialized quantum processors based on neutral atoms in 2022. In 2023, the company established its Korean branch, significantly contributing to the country’s quantum technology ecosystem.

Chong Yonuk, Director of the Quantum Information Research Support Center, remarked, “This agreement will enable us to collaborate with Pasqal to invigorate domestic quantum research and explore practical solutions for training specialized professionals. We are committed to providing meaningful research and educational infrastructure for researchers and students, continuing to play a pivotal role in advancing Korea’s quantum technology.”

Meanwhile, the Quantum Information Research Support Center and Pasqal are jointly hosting an online educational program covering topics from the foundational concepts of neutral-atom-based quantum computing to programming and quantum optimization. This program aims to provide learning opportunities for diverse individuals interested in quantum technologies.
