Junior Faculty-Presidential Roundtable Held
This inaugural event aimed to foster a sense of belonging among new faculty members as part of the Sungkyunkwan University community and to strengthen bonds among those appointed within the past two years. The program, moderated by Vice President for Academic Affairs Bae Sang-Hoon, included ¡øa keynote lecture by distinguished faculty, ¡øa dialogue with the president, ¡øfaculty introductions, and ¡øa dinner. Approximately 80 participants attended, including junior faculty, President Yoo Ji-Beom, Executive Director Joo Young-Soo, deans, and department heads.
The event opened with keynote lectures delivered by Professor Ahn Dae-Hoe, Dean of the College of Humanities and winner of the 38th Inchon Award, and Distinguished Professor Park Nam-Gyu, Korea’s first lifetime distinguished professor. The speakers shared their experiences and research insights to inspire and guide their junior colleagues.
This was followed by the "Dialogue with the President" session, where President Yoo Ji-Beom addressed questions and concerns submitted through a pre-event survey and live Q&A. Topics included settlement grants, teaching load policies, and workspace issues. President Yoo provided sincere and relatable responses, speaking as both a university leader and a senior faculty member.
During the dinner, President Yoo and Executive Director Joo encouraged the junior faculty and shared words of support. The event also featured introductions by the new faculty and reflections on their experiences since joining the university. The participants engaged in meaningful interactions, fostering camaraderie in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Junior faculty attendees expressed their pride in being part of Sungkyunkwan University, stating: "I feel a great sense of pride in our university’s high standards," "I enjoy working in an environment with an efficient administrative system, admirable colleagues, and brilliant students," "The passion of Sungkyunkwan University members has been particularly impressive," "I am very happy to work with such excellent professors and staff and to teach outstanding students." ¡øThey also appreciated the university’s supportive and warm community, which motivates them to focus on their research and contribute to the university's growth. ¡øParticipants pledged their commitment to further enhancing Sungkyunkwan University’s reputation and success.
