The Department of Trade and the National University of Laos jointly host the KARMI International Academic Conference

The Department of International Trade at our university, in collaboration with the National University of Laos, co-hosted the KARMI International Academic Conference from January 18th (Thurs) to the 20th (Sat) for a duration of three days. The Graduate School of Trade at our university, led by Professor Jung Hong-Ju, jointly organized the conference with the National University of Laos, focusing on the theme of 'K-ASEAN Risk Management & Innovation' for the year 2023/4.
The event held both online and offline, featured presentations of 42 papers from 10 different countries. Sessions were conducted on topics such as ˇřASEAN, ˇřESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), ˇřinternational trade investment, financial innovation, and more. This event, initiated in Vientiane, Laos, in 2018, marked its fifth iteration, with prominent universities from ASEAN countries, including Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, jointly organizing it.
In addition to ASEAN universities, institutions such as Waseda University (Japan), Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (China), Pozna¨˝ University of Economics and Business (Poland), and NSW University (Australia) participated. Domestically, universities like KDI Graduate School, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, and Seoul Digital University also took part. Notable figures such as Song Young-Heub, Executive Vice President of Korean Reinsurance, Son Gwan-Seol, Secretary-General of Samsung Microfinance Foundation, and Oh Yun-Jin, Researcher at the Certificate of Origin Institute (a doctoral candidate at our university), also contributed to the presentations.
On the evening of January 19th (Fri), a separate event, the Homecoming Day organized by our university's Trade Research Institute, took place. The event was attended by alumni from the 1970s master's program in insurance at the institute, known as Seongbohoe, with representatives such as Park Sang-Rae, Advisor to Kim & Jang Law Firm (former president of the Insurance Actuarial Society), and Professor Jung Young-Dong (former acting president of Dongju University). Additionally, about 20 graduates, including Choi Jong-Yoon, Head of Headquarters (Life Insurance Association), Choi In-Kyu, Executive (Kyobo Life), and Park Young-Min, Head of Headquarters (Samsung Asset Management), attended from the former Global Insurance and Pension Graduate School.
One of the alumni from the Global Insurance and Pension Graduate School, Yang Hee-Guk (Team Leader at Kyobo Life), who attended the event, expressed, "Due to the pandemic, I only had online classes and graduated, so it's regrettable. It's great to finally visit my alma mater and meet fellow alumni." For the preparation of the event, Park Ji-In, a master's student in the Trade Department, and Ui-Bo Woo, a student, volunteered their efforts.
